‘Aid workers need more support’

In marking the World Humanitarian Day today, the UN Office of Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is calling for more support to humanitarian workers in South Sudan.

The UNOCHA calls for an end to attacks on humanitarian aid workers in the areas under conflict.

The world is marking the day under the theme: “The world needs more”.

The acting deputy head of the UNOCHA in South Sudan, David Throp, says there is an increase in the number of humanitarian needs in the country.

He says there is a need to remember humanitarian workers who died while they were serving different communities.

Last week, six humanitarian workers were killed in Maban County in Upper Nile State.

“This is the day to perhaps particularly remember the violence against those humanitarian workers,” said Mr Throp.

“We are trying to reinforce the message. We need to deliver humanitarian workers. We need to allow them to get on with their work.”
