It’s an Administrative Function for the President to Issue a Republican Decree, says Barnaba Marial

The government says it is an administrative function for the President to issue a Republican Decree -withdrawing delegated powers that had been transferred to the Vice President.

Yesterday, people demonstrated in Leer, the home town of VP Riek Machar, demanding for clarification of powers that had been withdrawn from the Vice President.

The minister of Information, Dr. Barnaba Marial, told Eye Radio that Dr. Riek Machar continues to carry out his constitutional duties, while the duties that the President had transferred to him have been withdrawn.

Doctor Marial added that the training of the 200 peace mobilizers for the national reconciliation will continue in Juba:

“The issue of the national reconciliation conference has been suspended, but the training which was already arranged by the Vice President is going on, because it belongs to the office of the President.”

He said citizens “should not take up issues which are connected with administration of the whole country.”

Doctor Barnaba Marial also appealed to South Sudanese to not associate government functions to tribes, and support the work of both leaders in governing the country.
