Activists condemn killing of Journalist Peter Moi

Press freedom activists and members of the international community have made a fierce reaction to the killing of journalist, Peter Moi.

He was shot dead in Juba on Wednesday evening while returning to his house in Jebel Kujur.

The US says it is concerned about the killing and has called for a quick and thorough investigation into the incident.

State department spokesman John Kirby says the US embassy in Juba is following the incident very closely.

Mr Kirby has sent condolences to the family of the journalist.

The killing has drawn critical reactions from several press freedom activists. The Committee to Protect Journalists has condemned the killing while Reporters without Borders has called for an end to violence against journalists.

Mr Moi’s body is being taken today to Kajo-Keji County, in Central Equatoria State, for burial.

The late journalist worked with the Citizen newspaper and the New Nation. At the time of his death, he was working with the Corporate Newspaper in Juba.
