Why activists want army barrack in Yei Town relocated

Author : | Published: Tuesday, May 17, 2016

A civil society organization, the Centre for Democracy and Development has called for relocation of the army barrack from Yei town.

The appeal comes two days after the shooting of an international medical doctor, Veronica Racoback, who has been flown to Nairobi for special medical attention.

The organization’s Program Manager, Dara Felix, explains to Eye Radio why he thinks it is important to remove the military base from the town.

“We equally demand that the army, except the joint patrol force, must be relocated outside the town. They are really causing a security threat to the people of this town. We have a number of cases of people being arrested, intimidated and time has come for all these forces to be out of the town,” Dara Felix, the organization’s Programs Manager explained to Eye Radio.

Ms. Racoback was shot by a night patrol team while on an emergency evacuation mission on Sunday.
