At least one soldier was killed during a gun-search exercise in Lakes state on Saturday.

The soldier was killed when security forces carried out a door-to-door weapons search in Rumbek town.

Those that killed the soldier were arrested,” the state minister of information, Marik Nanga Marik told Eye Radio.

This month, Lakes care-taker Governor Matur Chut says insecurity and widespread availability of light weapons are the main causes of deaths in the state.

He said they are working to create awareness amongst the civilians on the dangers of arms possession.
