The Ministry of Environment has issued an order to fine individuals and institutions that fail to keep their surroundings clean.

The Minister of Environment, Deng Deng hoc said the order bans littering of the environment to support the keep juba clean campaign.

He said the ban also includes all the government institutions which fail to keep their premises clean, and manage waste generated by its operation.

“Any persons who fails to clean his or her home in compliance with the provision of this ministerial number nine 2015, shall be fined five hundred South Sudanese pounds. Now this is the amount you pay if you home is found to be dirty,” Mr. Hoc said.

He added: “As to keeping its premises clean at all time, or to manage waste generated by its operation in contravention of the ministerial ordered number nine 2015, shall be fined according to the size of the offence committed by its between one thousand south Sudanese to five thousand south Sudanese.”

Mr. Hoc says the order also bans smoking in public places and restricts business owners from allowing smokers to smoke within their premises.

Anyone caught smoking in public will be fined 1000 pounds.
