Over 200 construction co. bid to open up major roads

Over 200 road construction companies have submitted their bidding to open up major roads that connect South Sudan to its neighboring Countries.

A committee from the national Ministry of Roads, Transport and Bridges said it is reviewing the contract proposals before evaluation.

Gabriel Makur, the Undersecretary in the Ministry of Transport, speaking after the launch of Inter-states and International roads Project in Juba said his ministry has allocated 300 million pounds for 13 road

“The budget was 329 million, of which 100 million South Sudanese pounds was designated for the project of maintenance. But due to the crises, about 150 million was extracted out from 330 million.” he said.

Mr. Makur said the roads will boost trades within the country and internationally, and will reduce food price.

“These are roads going from Juba to Torit, to Kapoeta down the way to Logichokiyo in Kenya, Juba to Bor, Juba to Maridi, Mvolo Rumbek to Tonj, Wau to Gogorial and so on… these are main roads that can make us move between the capital Juba and the rest of the state capitals”, he said.

The winner of the bidders will be announced after evaluation by the committee.
