Two school children have drowned in Guom Juer East Payam of Aweil West County in Northern Bahr el Ghazal.

The girls were both 13 years old.

Guom Juer East payam administrator Deng Baai Tol confirmed the bodies of the young girls were found in a pool of water… after they left school.

He said he will order the fencing of dangerous areas.

“This is the only way I think will help people and it is what I want the community of this area to know it is the only way that prevents death of our children and animals.”

Last week, residents of another payam in Aweil West complained that the government is not doing enough to help them prevent drowning deaths.

17 children have drowned in a pool known locally as “apir” in the last six years.
