President Salva Kiir has selected a new Minister of Justice.

Paulino Wanawilla Onango  – who was previously a deputy minister – was appointed by a Presidential decree last night.

The role of the Minister of Justice  is  to uphold the rule of law.

The Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Martin Elia Lomoro said he was pleased with an appointment  that will help the country deal with a back log of legal issues.

“I think this is a commendable thing that the President has seen the work load that the two ministries has incurred,” he told Eye Radio this morning, “The person has a lot of experience in international affairs, and he is a lawyer and his committed person.  I think for me am quite happy person and I believe that the ministry of foreign affairs will get support from Honorable Bashir so this is a good choice I think.”

In other announcements, President Salva Kiir also appointed the former Minister of Defense, John Koang Nyuon as the caretaker governor of Jonglei state and the Honorable Peter Bashir Bendi as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
