The leaders of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda have signed a peace agreement aloing side US president Donald Trump in Washintong, Western media including the BBC have confirmed.

DR Congo’s President Felix Tshisekedi and his Rwandan counterpart, Paul Kagame praised the deal, aimed at ending a decades-long conflict in the region.

The BBC quoted Kagame describing, Trump as an even-handed leader who immediately took an opportunity to contribute to peace

An agreement was signed by the two countries’ foreign ministers back in June, but each side has accused the other of violating the terms

Ahead of the summit, there was an escalation in fighting in resource-rich eastern DR Congo between government forces and rebels believed to be backed by Rwanda

Trump also said the US was signing its own deals with both countries that would “unlock new opportunities” to access critical minerals
