15 million pounds: Yei River’s 2014/2015 budget

The Yei River County Executive Council has passed its 2014/2015 fiscal year budget tallying to 15 million pounds.

in the budget, much will be spent on civil servants’ salaries, leaving social developmental projects underfunded.

Speaking to Eye radio, the County Commissioner, David Juma Augustine called on the government to allocate enough funds for educational growth, road construction and construction of health facilities.

“As local government, we look at this budget as a challenge because it will only be addressing issues to do with salaries and transfers majorly to support salary,” stated Mr Juma.

Mr. Juma said this year’s budget was financed with state transfers covering 98 percent and the local revenue collection constituting only two percent.

He said 2014/2015 budget is less by 23 percent compared to that of last year because of waning in the revenue collection and establishment of the Municipality.

The County Authority says the budget that was sent from the state it is passed to the Legislative Council for deliberations and final endorsement.
