NGOs asked to renew licenses

Author : | Published: Friday, June 10, 2016

The Relief and Rehabilitation Commission has asked all the non-governmental organizations to renew their certificates before the end of this month.

The Registrar General of the Commission, Deng Tong Kenjok, says the registration started on the first of this month. It is being carried out under the new NGO laws signed by the President in February.

The law empowers the commission to evaluate and audit the programs of NGOs. The official opposition in parliament and some humanitarian partners had called for the bill to be discussed by the transitional assembly.

Last month, Mr Deng postponed the implementation of the laws due to technical reasons, which were not specified.

This week, in a new letter to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, international and national NGOs, Mr Deng says the process started on the first and will end on the 31st of this month.
