Yambio gets first truckloads of food through DRC

The Mayor of Yambio in Gbudwe says the town has received 15 truckloads of basic food items from Uganda through Congo.

This is the first time the state has imported food through Congo after the repair of the road connecting Gbudwe to the border.

Traders used to import food from Uganda through Yei and Kaya, which was expensive, leading to high prices.

Authorities in Gbudwe state hope that the existence of this road will reduce food prices.

“This is the first time actually things are coming. You know before Congo was having the same problem. Even Congo used to use our road for transporting, for example they used to use the road from kaya then through Yambio using the same route,” said Daniel Badagbu, the Mayor for Yambio.

“This is the first time we are having trucks to come from that area and it has come as a result of the security we are having on Congo road,” he said, adding, “Now we hope our movement will be free and our goods will be coming and the competition will come in the market and the price will reduce.”
