The Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization has appealed to President Salva Kiir to swear in the reconstituted leadership of the electoral bodies without delay.

On November 3, 2023, Kiir reconstituted the Political Parties Council, National Elections Commission, and National Constitutional Review Commission in response to civil society calls.

Edmund Yakani said in a press statement, the leadership and membership of the reconstituted political transitional institutions should be allowed to take oath at least this month, without any failure.

Yakani said delaying the inauguration of the institutions’ leadership is directly affecting the establishment and operation of the political transitional process.

These include the writing of a permanent constitution, registration of political parties and conduct of elections.

The activist calls for an end to what he terms as political culture of always delaying process that leads to delay in adequate implementation of the pending tasks of the R-ARCSS.

He appeals to President Salva Kiir to urgently empower the bodies to enable timely and effective engagement on the political transitional process, which he says, contribute to securing successful democratic transformation from violence to peace.

Mr. Yakani further said the political leadership should demonstrate real political commitment for the interest of gaining successful political transitional process.
