A woman has been shot dead and a 12-year-old boy injured in Hiyala, Torit Municipality, Eastern Equatoria State, according to local authorities.

The Caretaker Commissioner of Torit Municipality, Eddy William Ponsiano, said the woman, identified as Aku, died at the scene from gunshot wounds.

He said the injured boy, identified as 12-year-old Jackson, was rushed to Torit State Hospital for treatment.

Commissioner Ponsiano said he led a security operation following the incident, which resulted in the arrest of the suspected gunman.
