WFP rehabilitates 130km ‘food’ road

The World Food Program has launched a Special Operation for road rehabilitation for the Northern Corridor road linking Sudan to South Sudan.

WFP Public Information Officer, George Forminyen, says the repair of the 130 kilometer stretch from Rabat to Joda is expected to cost $2.5 million.

He says the road will facilitate an un-interrupted provision of emergency assistance through WFP South Sudan’s Northern Corridor from Kosti to Renk.

“It would help to facilitate the movement of emergency food assistance through Sudan,” he told Eye Radio.

It’s estimated that this will help the UN agency reach 4.1million people with food assistance.

According to the WFP at least 3.6 million people in South Sudan are currently facing severe food shortages in South Sudan.
