WFP appeals for funds to repair Joda-Kosti Road

The World Food Program says it requires at least 1.7 million US dollars for the rehabilitation of a road connecting Sudan and South Sudan.

It warned that it might lose access to the road between Kosti and Joda, which is the main route of bringing assistance to South Sudan, if the funds are not available.

In its latest situation report, the WFP says preparations are underway by its office in Sudan to create a Special Operation for the project.

It says within the next two weeks, it will airlift additional assistance to help bring urgently needed food aid to areas that are not reachable by land or river.

WFP says air requirements have increased based on humanitarian needs in the Greater Upper Nile and Northern Bahr el Ghazal regions.

It said insecurity in major supply routes have substantially hampered road deliveries.
