The government has delivered 35 tons of food items to Western Bahr el-Ghazal State to help reduce the high market prices.
The items include maize flour, beans and sugar.
Shortage of goods in the market has been reported in the state since last month, leading to high prices.
The Minister of Trade and Cooperatives, James Ernest Makuei says the food items will be sold to residents on credit as part of the cooperative society set by the ministry.
“We have received the first phase and this work will continue every time,” said Mr Makuei.
Bread shortage
Residents of Juba and Wau say they are facing shortage of bread. They told Eye Radio that some bakeries have stopped operation.
“There is no bread because it is very difficult to find flour because dollar rate is high and prices in the market are high. That’s why the owners of bread went on strike,” said a caller during the Dawn Show.
A worker at a bakery in Juba confirmed that they don’t have enough flour to produce enough bread.
He blames the shortage of flour on the scarcity of the US dollars to import the commodity from neighboring countries.
