The governors of Wau, Tonj and Gogrial have signed a deal regulating the movement of cattle keeping communities within areas of the farming communities of the three states.
The cattle ‘Migration Deal’ aims at minimizing and controlling wrangles between the two communities.
The cattle keepers move around the region with their cows looking for pastures but the farmers complain that the cows destroy their crops, especially during the harvesting season.
According to the deal, the cattle keepers have been barred from crossing territories of the farming communities in the months of November December and January, because these are harvesting seasons.
It states that they can cross in other months of the year, but without their arms.
Area authorities say several lives and property are lost every year, as a result of the inter-communal wrangles.
The three governors also agreed on the control of the small arms at the hands of the herders and protection of civilians and their properties.
