The governor of Wau, Elias Waya, has asked security forces to allow aid workers to access remote parts of the state.
This follows a meeting on Tuesday between the state officials and a team of humanitarian partners headed by the state coordinator of UNMISS, Winie Bibahuga.
Aid agencies have been raising concerns of limited access to the areas of need and of insecurity for their workers.
Mr Waya told the partners that their freedom of movement will be provided.
“So you will be having roads open to you,” Mr. Waya reassured the humanitarian officials from different organizations during h meeting. “And I would like that all the time if you are going in a place where we have forces, I think you have to notify us because we have to instruct them that they shouldn’t block any movement of the vehicles.”
Humanitarian partners have also been concerned about taxes imposed on trucks at checkpoints carrying humanitarian food items for displaced people.
Mr Waya says security forces will be directed to stop collecting these taxes.
