Four people were wounded in Gogrial East County of Warrap State Saturday following an attack by an armed group, while security forces responding to the violence captured three women attempting to set houses on fire, an official said.

Warrap Information Minister William Wol Mayom said the gunmen allegedly coming from Western Bahr el Ghazal State raided Wunpii village before they were repulsed.

“It has just been reported this morning that Wunpii, a village in Boyar of Gogrial East County came under attack by suspected armed youth from Marial Wau of Western Bahr el Ghazal State,” he told Eye Radio.

Mr. Mayom accused one Major Ajang Anyuon, an immigration officer from Western Bahr el Ghazal, of leading armed youth to carry out the cross-border offensive.

The officer in question was not immediately available to respond to the accusations.

“It has also been reported that Major Ajang Anyuon, an officer working in immigration in WBGS led a group of youth and attacked this same village, wounding four people.”

Mr. Mayom further said security forces captured three women among the assailants, moving with lighters and attempting to set houses on fire.

He said the women are currently being investigated.

“On the same note, three women were captured red-handed with lighters intending to burn down houses in Boyar, and these women have been apprehended and brought to Kuajok. They are in the hands of authorities as they are being investigated.”

When contacted, Western Bahr el Ghazal State Police Commissioner, Major General James Simon said he is not aware about the attack.

General Simon said he was yet to verify the reported attack from the law enforcement agencies on the ground.

“I didn’t receive the details any from police department from the ground about what happened yesterday,” he said.

“As I speak, no official whether from our side or from Gogrial East who come to us in our office to inform us officially about what happened.”
