Vice President Dr. James Wani Igga has directed the Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State to continue prioritizing peace and security as the country prepares for the December 2026 general elections.

Igga, who also chairs the Economic Cluster, made the remarks on Wednesday during a meeting with Governor Charles Madut Akol in Juba.

According to a statement from the Office of the Vice President, Governor Akol briefed Igga on the political, security and development situation in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.

During the meeting, the Vice President urged the state government to maintain peace and stability, saying security remains essential for development and the delivery of public services.

Governor Akol assured the Vice President of his administration’s commitment to preserving peace and security across the state.

The two leaders also discussed preparations for the country’s first-ever democratic elections, scheduled for December 2026.

They stressed the need for a peaceful and inclusive electoral process, with the state government expected to support efforts aimed at ensuring a secure environment for voters and election officials.

The meeting comes as the government and electoral institutions continue preparations for the planned polls.
