Violence affects polio vaccination campaign in 10 counties

More than 10 counties in the states affected by the conflict could not be accessed for vaccination against polio in a campaign that ends today, the ministry of health has said.

The campaign targets 2.6 million children less than five years. The counties that did not benefit from the campaign are mainly in Jonglei, Upper Nile and Unity states.

The Director of Immunization in ministry says almost 90% of the targeted children have been vaccinated over the past three days.

Dr. Anthony Luko told Eye Radio that insecurity made some of the counties inaccessible.

“It’s very difficult to get permission for the flight to reach any areas,” Dr Luko explained.

Another nationwide polio vaccination campaign is expected to be carried out next month.
