US ambassador congratulates successful YALI 2023 candidates

The U.S. Ambassador to South Sudan Michael J. Adler congratulated successful candidates for the Young African Leaders Initiative Program set to travel for the training in the U.S. soon.

Ten South Sudanese youths have been selected for the YALI program and will be going to different universities in the US for a six-week training on specific skills.

Some of them will be trained in business and public management while others on civic engagement, among others.

Addressing the selected candidates, the Ambassador of the United States to South Sudan Michael J. Adler congratulated the group.

“You are an impressive group of people, your selection reflects your accomplishments it reflects how competitive you are in your applications and credentials,” he said.

He told them they are going to the best universities in the US.

Mr. J Adhler further said “The future of South Sudan like the future of the continent and the future of all other countries around the world will be shaped by those under thirty and the candidates “have the opportunity to do so much more than the previous generation.”

One of them is Nasadu Emma, a businesswoman who owns a restaurant in Juba.

She is posted to Texas where she expects to learn how to write business plans, fundraise, and network.

“Am going to be on the track of business at the University of Texas at Austin. So basically we are going to network and share knowledge with people from the businesses and learn how to do business, how to write business plans,  fundraise,” she said.

Emma’s aspiration is to grow her business. “Hopefully, I will get new mentors so I can pick my business from where it is to another level,

She went on to say “I like being independent. I don’t wait to look for a job we need to be job creators, not seekers.”

Another is 29-year-old Anibiko Koosa who works for a community-based organization and as well owns a business.

“I’m going for civic engagement in Presidential Precinct in Charlottesville, virginia State. I have a lot of expectations one of them is to network.”

“I looked at the objectives of the Mandela fellowship and I realized it perfectly aligns with what I do,

“What I do so I see, this is the perfect opportunity to go and improve my skill to be able to deliver more, ” he said.

Martin told Eye Radio he is already a leader, but he believes the exposure training will improve his leadership skills.
