The Governor of Upper Nile State, Jacob Dollar, has issued a statement condemning the killing of 23 civilians in Ulang County during an attack on April 21 allegedly carried out by armed groups from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area.
In a letter obtained by Eye Radio, the Governor characterized the incident as an act of violence against civilians. Reports indicate that armed elements carried out the assault.
Governor Dollar extended condolences to the families of the victims. He also expressed wishes for the recovery of individuals who sustained injuries during the attack.
He condemned the attack as a brutal act and a legal violation, affirming that the government is working with the GPAA to apprehend those responsible.
“This act of brutality is unacceptable and constitutes a violation of international humanitarian and national laws,” he stated. “The government is taking measures to coordinate with the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) to identify the perpetrators and prevent the recurrence of such attacks.”
Authorities in Upper Nile State are monitoring the situation in Ulang County following the violence.
