The UN Missions in South Sudan says it has started relocating about 2,000 Internally Displaced Persons from the existing protection of civilians’ site to a new site in Malakal.

UNMISS acting spokesperson, Joseph Contreras, says they are planning to move thousands of I-D-P-s to the new site in the next five days.

He told Eye Radio that the new site has better sanitation facilities.

“There are more sanitation facilities and also more frames for erecting shelters,” he said.

Mr. Contreras said UNMISS is expecting to relocate all the I-D-P-s in the Tong Piny camp in Juba by the end of this month to a new protection site.

UNMISS premises in Juba, Bor, Bentiu and Malakal host about 91,000 civilians, mostly women and children.

Juba hosts the largest number of IDPs in the Tong Piny and Jebel sites.
