The Kenyan Ambassador South Sudan has been questioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the harassment of South Sudanese living in Nairobi by the Kenyan security forces.

The spokesperson of South Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affair, Mawien Makol, told Eye Radio that the government called the Kenyan Ambassador to find out from him why South Sudanese were being harassed in his country.

“We wanted to find out why this thing is happening,” said Amb Makol. “And we have given him time to solve that.”

Meanwhile, the Kenyan Ambassador, Leshore Cleland, told Eye Radio that Kenyan police didn’t inform the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of their ‘clean up operations’.

“So they arrested everybody who didn’t have proper papers or document, even Kenyans without proper papers. Most of South Sudanese citizens in Kenyan are born in Kenya. I don’t think there is any problem now.”

Last month Kenyan authorities arrested a number of South Sudanese whom they said entered the country without legal documents.

They were arrested during what Kenyan authorities called “clean- up operations” to get rid of suspected terrorists in the country.

About 100 of them were transported to Kakuma Refugee Camp on Tuesday.
