Unity gov’t concerned about oil spillage in Tharjath

The government of Unity State says there is a spill in Tharjath oilfield that needs to be fixed.

It says if the spillage is not quickly fixed it will affect wildlife and the environment.

The Minister of Information in the state, Peter Makuth, says oil has been spilling since last year after the pipelines were destroyed in the conflict that erupted in the country.

But he warns that the area is still not stable because of tensions between the government and the SPLA in Opposition.

He urged the international community, including the UNMISS to help oil companies reach the affected areas safely and fix the pipelines.
