The police in Jonglei have arrested two men for disobeying the order that outlawed celebratory gunfire on the New Year.

“We had issued an order prohibiting the firing of bullets in the air during New Year celebrations, but some people did not obey the order and fired bullets into the air,” said State Police Commissioner Maj. Gen. Elia Costa Faustino.

He told Eye Radio that the suspects were among many people who violated the order during the New Year’s Eve celebrations.

“We were able to arrest Two of them, even though the number of shooters was bigger than that, and we began investigating them.”

General Costa said the police investigated the suspects on Monday morning.

On the 30th of December, the Minister of Interior warned the public against the firing of bullets during the New Year celebrations.

Minister Angelina Teny emphasized the crucial role of organized forces in ensuring maximum security in the city.
