Torit authorities close down restaurants due to cholera threats

Torit town Authorities, in Eastern Equatoria State say they have closed down all small restaurants operating along the roads as a precautionary measure to prevent outbreak of cholera.

The Mayor of Torit Town Council, Stephen Osfaldo, told Eye Radio that there have been no reported cases of cholera in Torit since an outbreak was announced in Juba on the 15th of this month:

“In fact, as we heard about the outbreak of cholera in Juba, so we started by issuing a local order for the cleaning of the entire town. Any food being cooked along the road or in the open places, we closed all these place in Torit Town”, he said.

Mr. Osfaldo said that they have issued another local order for all the households in the town to dig pit latrines.

He said whoever fails to comply with the order will be fined 250 pounds.
