Nigerian Afro-beats superstar Tiwa Savage will sing at a concert to celebrate British monarch King Charles III’s coronation at the Windsor Castle in Berkshire on 7 May.
“I look forward to joining the celebrations and bringing Afrobeats to Windsor Castle for the first time,” Savage said to the BBC after her nomination.
Her nomination for the event has been greeted with mixed reactions at home, according to media reports.
While some believe her performance is a progressive spotlight for Afrobeats, others have taken to social media to register disappointment with the singer, calling her hypocritical given Britain’s colonial legacy in Nigeria.
