Terekeka peace conference slated for Friday

Terekeka County leaders and community members will conduct a peace and reconciliation conference on Friday to discuss ways of maintaining peace among themselves and with their neighbors.

The event will be attended by representatives from Awerial and Yirol West Counties in Lakes State, Kediba in Western Equatoria State and Juba County in Central Equatoria.

“It needs people to go and look into the problems our people are facing and the people who come from other areas and threaten the lives of our people and go back to their areas,” Jacob Gore, Tereka County Commissioner, told Eye Radio.

Gore says the Governor of the Central Equatoria State, Clement Wani, will chair the meeting.

In January this year, communal fighting erupted Luri and Kworjik villages in Central Equatoria State.

At least 10 people were killed and one man wounded in the clashes. Community leaders attributed the hostilities on grazing of cattle on farmlands.
