Teachers in Jonglei State have gone on strike.

They are demanding that the state authorities pay their chalk and house allowances.

They threatened not to resume work until their dues are paid.

The State Minister of Education, Tut Kony Nyang, says the government will not pay other allowances except house allowance.

He says the state government is in dialogue with the teachers to convince them to resume teaching.

“What the government can do now is only pay house allowances. Other allowances, which they are talking about, are not real…and I think measures will be taken, if they are willing to serve their people, that is okay. If they are not willing to do that, it’s not real, then we in the leadership will take measures because we will not sit idle.” He said.
