Sudan’s al-Burhan sacks deputy Dagalo

Sudan’s de facto leader Albdul Fatah Al-Burhan has fired the leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and appointed the leader of SPLM-North as deputy president.

Al-Burhan, who is the interim president of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) fired his harsh foe on Friday.

He has then appointed the leader of the SPLM-North Malik Aggar as Vice President.

“Gen. Abdul-Fattah Al-Burhan has issued on Friday a constitutional decree appointing Malik Aggar as TSC Vice – President as of  May 19, 2023,” reads the decree published on the state-owned Sudan News Agency.

The decree instructed the General Secretariat of the Sovereignty Council and concerned authorities to put this constitutional decree into effect immediately.

Since April 15, 2023, General Dagalo, who commands the powerful paramilitary RSF, has been engaged in ferocious urban battles with General Al-Burhan, who is the commander-in-chief of the Sudanese army.

The two general overthrew longtime Islamist leader Omar Al Bashir in 2019, and promised to install a civilian government, only to clink to power again.
