The Minister of Public Service and Human Resource Development is in Cote d’Ivoire to attend the Social Security Forum for Africa.

The ongoing regional forum will discuss ways to address pensioners’ welfare and other issues related to social security.

Minister Joseph Bangasi Bakosoro said the forum will also discuss strengthening the collection of contributions from civil servants.

“This conference is so important, because we are sharing ideas on how we can protect our pensioners and the vulnerable groups especially after they retire from work,” Bakosoro said to state television SSBC on Thursday.

“It is very important because how do we strengthen the collection of contribution from civil servant maintaining them, administering them properly so that also to develop the fund to grow. At the end of the day when you retire you get a very good benefit.”

Bakosoro urges South Sudanese to have trust in the pension institution to build the country.

In January 2019, the South Sudan Pension Fund launched the payment of pensions to civil servants.

The payment was first for hundreds of former government workers since the country’s independence in 2011.
