Sudan to open border with S Sudan

The Minister of Defense, Kuol Manyang Juk, has agreed with his Sudanese counterpart Awad Mohammed to implement the outcomes of a joint security meeting held in Khartoum in June.

The two ministers had agreed to open the border between two countries as part of bilateral cooperation.

They also agreed that Sudan would pay the pension for South Sudanese who were working in the Sudan Police force.

According to the official Sudan News Agency, the two ministers agreed yesterday on implementing the previous deals and cooperating in all sectors, including joint consultations on regional and international issues.

This came during the ongoing visit led by First Vice President Taban Deng Gai.

The meeting between the ministers also discussed the situation in South Sudan, particularly the recent fighting in Juba.

SUNA says the two ministers expressed interest to improve the relations between the two countries in all sectors.

The meeting was attended by Presidential Advisor on Security, Tut Galuak, the South Sudanese ambassador in Khartoum and the military attaché were also in the meeting.

During the same visit, First Vice President Taban Deng Gai is expected to brief Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir today on the commitment of the government to implement the peace agreement.

They are also expected to discuss bi-lateral relations between Juba and Khartoum before Mr Taban returns to Juba.

Other issues include the oil transit fees and the contested area of Abyei, according to media reports.
