South Sudan Football governing body has appointed Peter James Wani, Head Coach of the U-20 national team ahead of their continental mission.

The decision was announced on Saturday, January 21 2023, during the SSFA Board of Directors’ extraordinary meeting.

According to the letter of appointment seen by Eye Radio, Mr. Wani has been appointed as Head Coach for U-20 National Team along with Moses Zachariah Ngor as Assistant Coach.

The appointment was reached after a unanimous resolution passed by the SSFA Board of Directors, in an extraordinary meeting on 21, January 2023.

Last week, the SSFA relieved Charles John and his assistant Deng Abu-Kalam under unclear reasons.

The two coaches were fired after making history by taking the national team to the final of CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers in Sudan and qualifying the AFCON-2023 in Egypt.

The decision to relieve was received with shock and opposition from football fans across the country.

This forced the President of SSFA Augustino Maduot Parek to conduct a press conference to clarify the reason for their dismissal. Maduot said the decision was in the best interest of the team.

The U-20 national football team is preparing to participate in the TotalEnergies Egypt 2023 Africa Cup of Nations competition that will take place from 19 February to 11 March 2023.

It will be hosted by Cairo (Group A), Ismailia (Group B) and Alexandria (Group C).

South Sudan is in Group B and will play their fixtures in Suez Canal Stadium alongside Uganda, Central African Republic, Congo.
