The SPLM in Western Equatoria has condemned the relief of the First Deputy Mayor of Yambio Municipality for Administration and Finance by the State Governor.

Governor Alfred Futuyu Karaba removed Patrick Peter Mukanga -an SPLM member on Monday, April 17, 2023.

Reacting to the gubernatorial order, Western Equatoria SPLM Secretariat says the governor’s decision is unilateral and in violation of the peace agreement.

In a statement dated April 18, 2023, the SPLM secretariat warned that such action risks derailing the implementation of the peace agreement.

It is now demanding the state governor reinstate the ex-mayor without any precondition.

Last year, a rift emerged in the state government after SPLM-appointed ministers withdrew their participation from the cabinet after accusing Governor Futuyo of not convening sessions, an allegation he denied.

According to the revitalized peace agreement, the parties shall work in the spirit of dialogue and consultation.
