SPLA asked to stop occupying schools in Unity

The UN mission in South Sudan is engaged in talks with the SPLA to move its soldiers currently occupying schools and other social facilities in the former Unity state, an official has said.

UNMISS says SPLA forces have occupied Comboni Brothers in Leer, making it difficult for it difficult for the school to be accessed for education purposes.

The UNMISS Spokesperson, Arianne Quentier, told reporters at the UN House this morning that UNMISS has renovated and also restored some schools in the area.

“In Greater Unity, UNMISS is also renovating a school in Rubkona town, UNMISS has also restored a school in Pariang, further north, where the Indian Battalion conducted a two-day patrol earlier this month,” Ms Quentier said.

The SPLA is yet to comment on the negotiations.
