South Sudan joins the World Girl Guide Association

South Sudanese girls can now learn team work and leadership skills from the global Girl Guide Association.

South Sudan has been admitted as 31st member of the World Girl Guide Association.

The World Guide Association’s Regional Development Executive said that the Girl Guide movement allows girls and young women to develop self-esteem and contribute to nation building.

Alice Waweru, who is visiting South Sudan, said the girl guides can advocate on issues that concern girls and young women and influence decision-makers.

“It offers opportunity for girls to explore their talents and we promote them so they lean about themselves, they learn about leadership so that when they are in school, they are aspired to complete school, excel, go to university or to tertiary institution,” she said.

“In the long run, they stand on their own and also contribute in the community development.”

The Girl Guide Association focuses on physical fitness, citizenship and career preparation.
