South Sudan invited to attend Bashir’s inauguration

The government of Sudan has invited the South Sudan to attend the inauguration of Omar Bashir as president on the 2nd of next month.

The Charge de affaires in the Sudan embassy in Juba, Majdi Ahmed Almufadel, says the Sudan government has handed the invitation to South Sudanese ambassador in Khartoum this week.

“I think maybe it will take time for them to reply because they just received it on Wednesday and today its Saturday,” he said.

The presidential press secretary, Ateny Wek Ateny, says the inauguration will be attended by Vice-President, James Wani Igga.

“President Salva Kiir will send a high level delegation headed by vice president to attend the swearing,” Mr Ateny said. “The president will have a lot of commitment because he is now working to bring lasting peace in the country as his priority.”

Al-Bashir was re-election with 94% of the vote, according to official results released last month, extending his 25 years in power.
