South Sudan is missing in the current Human Development Report of 2014 because the data on income and education could not be provided due to the December crisis, the United Nations Development Program has said.
UNDP launched its Global Human Development report today to reduce vulnerabilities and building resilience.
The Human Development Report is a leading report commissioned by UNDP every year to help countries promote sustainable human development.
“Development advances will be neither equitable nor sustainable unless vulnerabilities are addressed effectively, and all people enjoy the opportunity to share in human development progress,” said the report.
It argues that as crises spread faster and further, understanding vulnerability is critical for securing gains and sustaining progress.
“Financial crises, fluctuations in food prices, natural disasters and violent conflict significantly impede progress,” it added.
UNDP says it has started a plan with the government, in particular the National Bureau of Statistics to provide data in time for the next Human Development Report in 2015.
UNDP’s aim was to support the development agenda of the government of South Sudan by facilitating early recovery in livelihoods.
It engenders peace and reconciliation and ensures access to justice and rule of law critical for sustainable development.
