South Sudan has achieved two major milestones at the 6th Specialized Technical Committee on Social Development, Labour and Employment (STC-SDLE-6) taking place in Windhoek, Namibia.

The country’s Minister of Labour, Anthony Lino Makana, is representing South Sudan at the African Union meeting, which is being held under the theme: “Investing, Strengthening and Expanding Social Protection Systems in Africa.”

According to a statement posted by the Ministry of Labour, South Sudan was elected to the STC-SDLE Bureau as the 3rd Vice Chair, representing the Workers’ Constituency.

The appointment is seen as recognition of South Sudan’s contribution to advancing labour, employment, and social development across the African continent.

In another achievement, African Union Member States endorsed South Sudan’s bid to host the 7th Specialized Technical Committee on Social Development, Labour and Employment (STC-SDLE-7) in 2028.

The Ministry of Labour said the two achievements reflect the confidence African Union Member States have placed in South Sudan’s leadership.

It said the developments also reaffirm the country’s commitment to promoting social development, decent work, employment opportunities, and inclusive social protection systems across Africa.
