South African DP lands in Juba to advance 2018 peace deal

JUBA, South Sudan (Eye Radio) – South African Deputy President Paul Mashatile and his delegation arrived in Juba today for a two-day working visit dedicated to high-level consultations on the implementation of the 2018 Revitalised Peace Agreement.

In a statement published on the South African government page, the visit underscores South Africa’s commitment to supporting efforts toward lasting peace, development, and stability in the nation.

The Deputy President and his team were received at Juba International Airport by South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Monday Semaya Kumbaa, as well as a delegation of top South Sudanese and South African officials.

Other welcoming dignitaries included the Director General of Bilateral, Amb. Phillip Jade, the South Sudan Ambassador to South Africa, Amb. Simon Doku, and South Africa’s Ambassador to South Sudan, Amb. Mahlodi Muofhe.

During his two-day trip, Deputy President Mashatile is scheduled to hold primary discussions with President Salva Kiir and other key signatories to the Revitalised Agreement.

The consultations will also include meetings with various stakeholders in a push to expedite the implementation of the R-ARCSS and secure a sustainable path forward for the South Sudanese people.

According to the statement, the visit comes at a critical time for South Sudan’s peace process, where international engagement is seen as vital for resolving outstanding issues related to the political transition.
