The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has announced the death of senior diplomat and first ambassador of South Sudan to Israel, Ruben Marial Benjamin, who passed away yesterday.

In a statement issued on social media, the ministry described the late diplomat as a man of profound dignity, unwavering dedication and a tireless servant to his nation and people.

“With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, the Leadership of the Ministry and the entire staff of the Ministry mourn the sad passing of senior diplomat, Ambassador Ruben Marial Benjamin who passed on the 7th of May, 2026,” read in part the statement seen by Eye Radio.

The statement did not disclose the cause of his death.

Ruben Marial Benjamina became South Sudan’s first ambassador to Israel after being appointed in 2014.

He also served in several diplomatic roles.
