RRC buys locally produced food from Renk

The Relief and Rehabilitation Commission has started buying food from Renk to be supplied to the Bahr al-Ghazal region, according to an official.

This is food produced by local farmers in the county.

The chairman of the commission, Lokulenge Lole, says the government has already paid for 6,000 bags of sorghum to be transported to Wau.

“This food will be taken straight to World Food Program warehouses and from there, it will take it to the areas of critical needs,” Mr Lole told Eye Radio.

He said this is part of a project to buy 110,000 bags of grains to be supplied to the region to reduce hunger.

The UN says some 2.8 million people in South Sudan are in urgent need of food assistance. Some 200,000 people in need are in Northern Bahr El Ghazal and Warrap states.
