President Salva Kiir has called on relatives of victims killed in recent road ambushes to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their hands.
Kiir made the remarks after touring the main streets of Juba yesterday to dismiss rumors of tension.
The rumors also followed reports of targeted killings along the main roads in and out of Juba.
The President was accompanied by the SPLA Chief of General Staff, Paul Malong and other senior military and government officials.
President Kiir and the SPLA Chief of General Staff, Paul Malong were both waving at bystanders on an open Toyota land cruiser on the streets of Gudele, Munuki, Customs and other routes in the town.
Speaking to the media, President Kiir said taking revenge is against the law.
He urged those who lost their loved ones in different incidents on the Juba-Nimule and the Juba-Yei road to remain calm.
“Parents or the relatives of the victims who lost their lives in this tragic incidents, I want to calm them down that let them remain calm,” he said.
“Nobody should take the law into his or her hand to go and revenge. It is not time for revenging; it is time for forgiveness,” the president said, adding “even if we get them today, those who killed the people, we can still forgive them, because they don’t know what they are doing.”
For his part, General Malong said he would never serve any interests of tribes.
General Paul Malong has assured the residents of Juba to go about their normal activities, saying there is normalcy in the town.
