Rizik: “We’re recovering from minor accident injuries”

The Minister of Wildlife Conservation and Tourism who was involved in a car accident along with several other ministers, says they are recovering well from the injuries.

On Wednesday, vehicles carrying several top officials accompanying President Salva Kiir to Aweil town smashed into one another – causing visible damage.

Several national ministers including Wildlife Minister Rezik Zechariah Hassan and the Minister of Culture, Museums, and National Heritage, Nadia Arop Dudi survived the crash with multiple bruises.

Others were the Minister of Transport Madut Biar and the Second Deputy Speaker of parliament Corneilo Kon.

The officials were reportedly flown to Juba for medical attention.

Speaking on national television – SSBC on Friday, Minister Hassan says they are recovering well and will soon resume their duties.

“While we were driving back to Aweil town, just 20 minutes out of Rayo, we had an accident with the escort vehicles of His Excellency Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi, where there were sorts of obstacles delayed by the escorts,” he said.

“In fact, we have sustained different multiple injuries, but we want to assure the peace lovers and the followers of the events in South Sudan that everything went well except for these minor injuries. But we will subject them to medication and soon all of us should be back to his station of duty.”

On Wednesday, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Minister of Information William Anyuon told Eye Radio that the accident was caused by poor visibility as a result of dusty roads.
