A peace conference between Dinka Malual of Northern Bahr el Ghazal and Arab Rezigat from Eastern Darfur concluded with a call on the Sudanese pastoralists to stop crossing into South Sudan with firearms.

The Peace rally was mediated by Northern Bahr El Gazal State Ministry of Peace with the participation of over forty delegates from Eastern Darfur.

It is intended to address disputes arising among the two communities who graze their animals together during the dry season.

The State Minster of Information William Anyuon said the participants also agreed on compensation to victims of a conflict that occurred in 2022.

“The workshop was conducted with the Dinka Malual cattle keepers and the Arab Community of Rezigat were called to be introduced to the Policy,” he said.

“One of the Policy was that when they come to this area, they are told not to come with their guns. Any armed cattle keepers are not accepted to come to South Sudan with their arms and there are some criminals that raids cattle which will be looked into.”

He added that a similar peace rally is being planned between Dinka Malual and Arab Meseria.
