The country should first embark on reconciliation before starting to prosecute crimes committed during the conflict which started in 2013, a political analyst has said.
Dr James Okuk says this is because institutions at both national and state levels of government have not yet been completed.
Rights activists have been calling for a speedy establishment of a hybrid court that would try perpetrators during the conflict.
“What is the priority for us is the reconciliation and healing. Part of healing and reconciliation must be complemented by the court later,” argued Dr Okuk, who was speaking to Eye Radio during a roundtable discussion on the dawn show.
“But when we rush court at this particular moment and with foreigners coming, they can complicate [things].”
Dr Okuk also said that compensation to survivors of the conflict is among the immediate priorities to enable those displaced resettled.
